Colour Code BYCRWN
Sarah Boris, 2024
30 x 30 cm, 6 panels
30 x 180 cm (open)
Acrylic on wood
Bookmaking forms an important basis in Sarah Boris' body of work. Similarly to a preliminary sketch, even in their finished form, her artist’s books have become a starting point and inspiration for new artworks. Some of her books have led to sculptures and a large series of drawings which have been presented in several solo exhibitions this year. On the occasion of her exhibition at einBuch.haus and the launch of the latest iteration of her book “Le Théâtre Graphique“ published by Generation Press, Sarah Boris conceived two new sculptures during a residency in the gallery space in Berlin. The sculptures can be assimilated to a leporello as their structure includes several panels linked with hinges running across the full lenght of the panels' side. Both sculptures can be unfolded into the space in a multitude of ways. One of the sculptures, titled: Colour Code BYCRWN references the colours used in her latest book and echoes the chromatic combinations often visible on the side of printed sheets. These disappear once the book is trimmed, with this sculpture they are made visible again.

Exhibited at einBuch haus as part of my solo show: A Theatre of Shapes from 5 September to 5 October 2024
